Italian Invasion
This morning, one of President Obama's biggest aficionados will be visiting Washington. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, a leader who describes Mr. Obama as "young and handsome, [with] a good tan,” will most likely be discussing the global recession in the lead up to next month's G8 summit.
The visit comes days after Obama’s right-hand man at the Treasury, Timothy Geithner, defended the administration's hefty stimulus package during pre-conference ministerial meetings in Italy.
Geithner: “Early signs of improvement are encouraging, but the global economy is still operating well below potential, and we still face acute challenges.”
Only several weeks remain before world leaders descend on the earthquake-hit town of L’Aquila to address the economic realities challenging the international system.
