To Infinity And Beyond... Or Maybe Not?
The movies always inspire our imagination; most recently's Marvel's Ironman film made many of wish for a suit that could do almost anything. Well, researchers are currently working on an artificial intelligence suit that could hold some of those fantastic elements. These specific components are being designed to be integrated into NASA's space suits so as to allow astronauts the ability to identify alternative lifeforms on other planets, specifically Mars. The suit in essence provides a second set of eyes to the astronaut as it inputs the information onto a the networking that is currently on the suit. The intelligence is able to register and decipher the information similarly to the human brain. While this technology won't be complete for some time, researchers are advancing what we can create each and every day.
We are amazed regularly at the development of new technologies and how it is able to ease our lives, yet what is even more intriguing is that no matter how advanced the technology, even the slightest thing can potentially shut it down. This seemed to be the case recently when the Large Hadron Collider, which is the world's largest particle accelerator was compromised by a piece of bread dropped from above by a bird. While the accelerator was not on at the time, the piece of bread overheated the system and could have potentially set off fail safes that would have turned off the machine. It seems as though we have yet to learn from Stanley Kubrick as he showed us that even a simple screwdriver could shutdown the powerful HAL computer system..
